best friend / semi-longterm
- y/c is a very sweet, loving character with the desire to help anyone they come across. after meeting robert, they decide that they will attempt helping him out of the slump he'd gotten himself into, but he is essentially a lost cause. robert will respond with anger and denial at first, but slowly, he will give into y/c friendly disposition and try to make himself better. somewhat. though, in doing so, he will distance himself from them in fear of tainting their easygoing spirit.
- y/c comes from a bad background and is stuck in a rough patch. they come across robert while he is drinking and he invited them to join him. after they've got a fair amount of alcohol in their system, y/c starts venting to him and outing their entire life story - staying silent the entire time, though nodding at certain points. y/c starts choking up and bewilders robert, who hardly knows shit about comforting anyone, until he pulls y/c to him and just lets them cry. after this, robert will be extremely protective over y/c, and will check in with them very often to make sure everything is okay. potential for love interest plot, too ?? because ya boi needs love eventually

— robert is a large, fairly muscular german shepard; coat long and somewhat wavy. his coloration is mostly of deep brown and burgundy hue, melding together into a sable pattern. faint greys streak the longer fur between his ears, where it is thicker, darker than the rest of his body. his form is large, buff, with a broad chest and wide, sloping shoulders, paired with poor posture curved from years of leaning over the counter of whatever bar he made it to. a large, deep scar mars the expanse just beneath his collarbone, although it is most often intentionally hidden by the lapels of his coat. his eyes are a brilliant golden when in direct sunlight, although appear more of a deep, hazel bordering on honey hue. he is never seen without his leather jacket, and wears a pair of aviators around his neck with a leather strap. he also has a 'tattoo' branded into his left forepaw; a helm, which he will refuse to talk about.

— robert is a man who is struggling to maintain control on his life. after the sudden loss of his wife and disconnecting from his only daughter, robert sunk deep into depression. in the attempt to fill the emptiness in his chest, he consumes an unhealthy amount of alcohol. the constant buzz allows him to relax, wear a mask of lies that hides the truth of his suffering. while he is blunt, a tad bit aggressive when he is off put, and rough around the edges, he isn’t biting off anyone’s head. he uses dry, dark humor as a defense mechanism, pretending that his [ lying ] comic routine will most definitely deter his friends and neighbors from digging too deep into his mess. despite the web of lies he spins to protect himself from others and to keep others from getting too close, he is a man who cares deeply for the people in his life. while he has difficulties expressing his affections in words, he show his kindness in small acts and including friends within his life to a small extent.  he is admittedly stand-offish due to his nature, but in actuality, he is humorous and as he ages, he wishes to do good and attempt turning his life around.
