Most girls learn at a young age to trust men, that their first love is their father. Blake didn't get that luxury, her home life was violent and dangerous. From a young age Blake learned not to trust men, that she shouldn't rely on anyone - man or woman. For twenty-one years she never stayed in one place long enough to make a family, to really have any friends or roots anywhere.
Until Flintlock. Eddie. The twins. The wedding.
She didn't know what it was like to trust someone, especially a man, until she opened up to Eddie. Until she married into this huge group of brothers (and Ida). Out of all of them, she grew closest to Alfie. She couldn't tell you why, but she grew closest to the very...outgoing and chaotic brother. He became her best friend. They were almost opposites, but for some reason, they seemed to work out.
Then everything started to fall apart.
Eddie cheated on her, she broke it off and wanted nothing to do with him. Then she found out she was pregnant again and her support system became Thomas and Alfie. Blake is stubborn, wanting to do everything on her own, but she let them help. Hell, they were with her when Keiron and Louis were born and she liked to say if they weren't scared of her before - they were now.
And then things seemed to be okay. They were okay until Bluestem came back for that boy. She was pregnant with Danny's kid - she hadn't told anyone, even Alfie - she had been planning on telling him. Make him swear not to tell a soul and then celebrate with the person she trusted most...but she never got to tell him.
She almost collapsed at the news. She didn't want to believe it, but then again she didn't hear most of it. As soon as she heard he was dead, everything sounded muffled, fake, like she wasn't even there. She didn't believe it, she couldn't. Alfie was all she really had left, her best friend and the person who showed her not all guys were terrible people.
"...Blake?" "I'm sorry. I-..." it was said softly as she left, she couldn't do this. She was losing her new family, ripped away from her with no warning. Entering a room, she shut the door and slowly, so so slowly her back slid down the door. A scream turned into sobbing and tears. She never got to tell him. She was alone here now. She wasn't close to Thomas like she was Alfie, she couldn't stand Eddie, and she couldn't talk to Henry or Ida like she could him. Unless Danny was there, she would be alone and she didn't realize how much she hated being alone...until she was.
Everything felt numb, voices sounded muffled. She spoke to no one.
She watched from afar as they buried Alfie but she didn't stay around long enough for anyone to come and try to talk to her. She did, however, go to the grave of the two Stirling boys when no one else was around. "Hey" her voice was soft, taking a seat so she could continue to talk to Alfie though she didn't mind that their conversation listened in on.
"I- I had something to tell you...but, you...fuck you ass. You ended up here...So just, just listen. O-okay?" wiping tears from her face with her sleeve as she continued to talk "I'm having a baby, Alfie. Not with your brother, god no. I know you think you're funny and I can hear you joking about it. But no, okay? With Danny. The big grump that's not around much?... I think you would like him once you got over him being grumpy. I think you would like him because...because he makes me happy."
---
She sat on the piano bench, a toddler Xena on her lap. The little one was more watching mommy play the piano, sucking her thumb, and listening to whatever song Blake chose to play. It was calm and sweet, the kids were nearby playing or napping. Moments later, the song of the piano was interrupted by a BANG on the piano closely followed by another. Closely followed by giggling from two boys close to Xena's age.
Looking over, Blake saw her two sons Keiron and Louis more than proud of themselves. They had gotten into trouble and done things before but this...god. She set down Xena, kissing her head "Go find Cade, okay?" she didn't have to ask twice she was quick to run off on such a task - the little girl adored her big brother.
Getting up, she picked up her two terrors and kissed their heads. They wouldn't remember their uncle and probably didn't understand why Blake was so quick to need to give them attention, but they were all she had left now. It was a stretch, sure, but she saw her best friend in her boys. She set them down on the couch and smiled at them.
"Mommy, why are you crying?" she looked confused, until wiping her eyes and realizing she was in fact crying. She took a deep breath and sat between the boys, the two of them waiting for an answer as her arms went around the boys, hugging them close.
"You've heard about your uncle Alfie, right? Well..."

— I like to think Blake is a good example of the whole "strong, independent woman" thing even if she doesn't identify as a woman. She has a short temper and what I gently put as homicidal tendencies. She will gladly fight someone, regardless if they're bigger than her or not. However, she's also rather maternal and is more likely to protect a child than anything. Her maternal side has massively shown itself since the twins were born, though that leaves her more violent side to be overlooked or forgotten.
