[align=center][align=center]Johnny winced, jaw clenching as a dampened cloth was dabbed around his wound. A girl who had helped him, which he was incredibly grateful for, looked up at him with a concerned look. "[b]I'm okay," he responded with a gentle smile, "just hurts a little." It hurt a whole lot even though he had been in bed for what felt like forever. He didn't expect it to heal overnight, but this was ridiculous. There was no way he could rely on others for so long, that hospitality didn't last forever. Still, it was nice, trusting others and all. Not necessarily smart, just nice.
"It looks way better," Angelica, the girl, said with a nod. Her eyes went from his face and back to the cloth in her hand. "Once this is all better you're gonna have to do, like, all my hunting, you know that right?"
Once her hands were away from the stab wound Johnny pulled up his pants careful to not let it touch the wounded area. "Thats all? I think you may be underestimating me," he poked the side of his head, "I've got some brains. Not a lot, but I can totally do more then just hunt. Maybe, don't quote me on that." His head rolled back, showing that he was completely comfortable, not a bit wary of Angel. Which was an accomplishment all on its own.
His hand went out to hers, in which she responded by interlocking her fingers with his own. Gentle, he guided her towards him. For a moment they were quiet, just looking at each other. He'd been hurt so many times. So, so many times, and it made him hesitate. "Why'd you help me?" Johnny's brow furrowed, his hand ever so slightly tightening around hers. He didn't want to let go. For some weird, irritating reason he wanted to always feel the quiet pulse in her palm, to see her cheeks turn pink at the slightest thing. The feeling was overwhelming yet relieving, so intense that he wanted to cry, but reassuring of something he wasn't sure of. Not incredibly extraordinary or life changing. In fact he felt the same as he always had, just more... More.
Angel wasn't sure what to say, why had she helped him? Thinking back she was sure it was for selfish reasons. That changed though, and now she didn't know. Love was, well, she didn't think it was love. Or maybe it was? She didn't know what love was really, or how it was supposed to feel. Hell, she was only twenty three!
"Because you would have died without me," she said in an attempt to dodge the question, "and I just so happened to be dragged into it. But, I am glad I was."
Swallowing hard he mumbled, "can I kiss you?"
This was followed by more quiet. Surprisingly it wasn't an awkward quiet like Johnny had expected, instead it was comforting.
"Yeah, yeah you can," Angel responded slowly, cheeks blushing hard, "but if I say stop you stop."
Angel leaned into his chest, there lips barely brushing each other with the uncomfortable feeling that came with the first kiss. She laughed, going back to her sitting position. It was ridiculous how startled he looked, but she didn't know the things that had happened to him. She didn't realize how terrifying that kiss had been for him, how he had tried desperately to push the image of his mother away. However, it wasn't difficult to notice how tense he was. "Are you crying?" Wide eyed she backed up further, not in a disgusted way, instead in shock. A grown man had began crying because of a tiny little peck, that was definitely strange.
Painfully his chest clenched as he tried to swallow a windy breath. "I'm sorry," he mumbled, "I didn't mean to."
"Hey, don't apologize," Angel tried to hug him, thumb rubbing against his shoulder. The feeling of his shaking sobs made her heart constrict. She didn't understand why he was breaking down or how to help, which made her worry more. "Do you want to be alone?"
Johnny shook his head, wrapping his arms around her desperately, he didn't want to be alone with this feeling. With a huff she rested her cheek on his clavicle. The two focused on each others breathing, on how their heart beat was mixing with the others. It was a bittersweet moment for Johnny, and a strange one for Angel. "This is so hallmark," Angel breathed, a small laugh echoing in her throat, "next thing you know someone's gonna say I love you."
"Johnny? Is it okay if I kiss you? Right here," her finger tapped on cheek. A smile blossomed on her features as he nodded. Thank god he hadn't just clammed up, that would have been too much for her.
It felt like nothing Angel had been so gentle, and Johnny felt his heart swell because of that. Both of them turned to each other before kissing again. This one wasn't so sweet, it was almost angry as Johnny wrapped his arms around her waist. In response she cupped his face between her palms. He couldn't keep the thought of his mother from the back of his mind, but it didn't hurt so much this time. The kiss didn't last very long and they broke apart after just a split second of that passion. She smiled so wide it looked like her heart was about to explode. It wasn't like he could just not smile when she looked so happy, and so he beamed back at her.
Cocking her head to the side she raised an eyebrow, "you are so goofy.'
"Nuh-uh," he said in mock offense, "dork."
A genuine feeling of joy erased everything, even his mother who had haunted him for years. His whole life really. That made him sad for some reason, not that he even noticed the feeling for a second. For now he was going to keep his every thought on Angel.
They stayed together for another hour just whispering to each other about meaningless things. Her frizzy brunette hair wrapping around his calloused fingers, and the back of his neck being tickled by her cut up thumb. Misty bits of dust floating around in a halo of sunshine. It was barely the afternoon, but both of them were exhausted. Emotionally, anyway. There wasn't a sound except for the rustle of clothing matched to the beat of their voices. It was a moment Johnny didn't understand completely. It was too foreign a feeling for him to really grasp. At that moment it didn't really matter, he'd sort things out tomorrow. Maybe after that, maybe never, he didn't care.
