//tw for violence? idk man
Sel was eleven years old, her dark hair still curly and shorter than it was a dozen years later. She was more excitable and emotive, but that was beginning to change. Even though she was a girl ("even though she was a girl"; she'd never understand why people said that) Geoff had decided that because she was the eldest, she would inherit the Cartel instead of Aaron or Lessie or even baby Isabel. Which meant she needed to learn how things were done.
Apparently the man Geoff was meeting had been a gun collector before the apocalypse and had a pretty big arsenal, not to mention quite a few armed goons at his bidding. Not to be trifled with in a fight, but lacking in a sustainable food source - something Geoff had secured years ago. Weapons for food, that was meant to be the deal, but tensions were high. The gun collector could massacre the Felix's Cartel and the Felix Cartel could halt any food heading their way. They were there because they had to be, not because they wanted to be.
Before going into the meeting to negotiate, Geoff stopped and pulled Sel aside. "Stay silent and observe." He ordered. "You will be surprised how much you learn and how much power that gives you." Her father wasn't a good man by any stretch of the imagination (perhaps you could recognize and respect the strengths and power he had but admiration was a step too far for a man like him), but he was Sel's hero and she drank up the words. She knew they'd be important, otherwise he wouldn't say them now of all times. "Now, you know what this means, yes?" Geoff asked as he gently took her hand.
Sel nodded. "Agreed." They'd already gone over this but she was happy to prove she remembered without... things going bad.
"And this?" Geoff asked, moving up to her wrist and practically strangling it to the point that Sel visibly winced in pain. "No. Never show weakness. Never show them how you feel." He didn't loosen his hold until she smoothed the pain from her face. Only when Sel's expression was void did he relax his grip. "What does it mean?"
"Choke." Sel repeated, and Geoff smiled proudly, kissing her forehead. All hints of happiness or pride were erased from his face as he stood, however, straightening his suit. "Just be quiet and watch." He reminded her, leading her out into the alley where the gun collector was waiting.
Later on, Sel would wonder why Geoff chose to bring her to that negotiation. Sure, she soon began attending all of his "meetings", but it was a long time before there came another that was so dangerous. After all, there wasn't a bigger weakness to aim at than the little girl in the pink shirt and blue skirt. It wasn't like Geoff wanted to risk her life, especially when she wasn't able to defend herself.
When she was taught how to shoot, her older second cousin told her to aim for center mass. Sure, there was more chance for a recovery if someone's shot in the side than if they're shot in the head, but there's also a lot more room to hit their center mass than their head. Little eleven-year-old Sel was like Geoff's head - it'd do more harm to kill her, but it was harder and less practical.
She'd never forget the moment when the shootout began and she and Geoff were dragged behind some crates, and she watched blood spill from his shoulder as her father grabbed her wrist and squeezed as tightly as he could. If he had died it'd be a dark final message, an order to crush his enemies and killers. But he'd lived to do that himself.
But in the moment, she hadn't known he was going to live, just that he was bleeding and telling her to starve the ones shooting at them and that there were people shooting and yelling. Of course she'd started to cry, and Geoff wiped her tears away with a shaking hand. "What did I say?"
"N-never show weakness. N-never show how you feel." Sel said, barely able to choke back her sobs. Geoff nodded, breathing "that's right". While the shootout reached it's climax, Sel forced herself to stop crying. She steeled herself, preparing for the worst and for the brutal task she wasn't nearly ready for. Of course she wouldn't really be responsible for it, her job would have been relaying what by then was a pretty clear message. Still, there's never a time when you're ready to lose your father, and that certainly wasn't any kind of exception.
From then on, Sel was prepared for fighting, for negotiating and trading and crushing her opposition, for many other things but most of all, for self-control. Not letting any emotion slip by unchecked, not letting anyone see her strengths or weaknesses. No matter what.
In the end, Geoff had more men and controlled the food. The gun collector and his goons surrendered in a week. No one knew who fired the first shot.
ahhh this probably is all over the place and/or makes no sense bUT Junkers inspired me to write a oneshot about why Sel is so in control all of the time. I'll probably dive into this more but yeah
also the gc didn't shoot Sel bc she's a little girl and he's got limits, had nothing to do with whatever I was going on about with that center mass s**t

▪ Would hook up with almost anyone in Flirtlands
▪ Lives with Mettaton | Hired John as her manservant
▪ NPC x NPC | No adopted kin

▪ Opinions, motivations and ambition are Sel's and Sel's alone and are not shared by her roleplayer.
Physical:
★ HUMAN | health: 100%
She's small, but not too small, about 5'4" or so. Slender and always moving, pretty blue-green eyes with a mischievous glint in them and you know she's gonna get you into trouble. Dark hair, no doubt dark thoughts as well. Red lips curve into a lazy grin that reveals white teeth - they won't stay pearly for much longer, though, as she's often seen smoking.
 major injuries: none
 minor injuries: none
Personality:
Sel is a very bold, competitive and stubborn person, with a wild side that is shown frequently as well as flirtatious tendencies. She is easily bored and is always on the lookout for adventure, with a spark of curiosity that she hopes will lead to what she seeks: adventure and romance. She seems to not be a very serious person and would rather have fun than be productive, and failing entertainment she can be quite productive and get quite a bit done. She's loud and lacks discipline. While Sel is irresponsible (and oddly bossy) and wild, she is very family-oriented and loves her family dearly. She is usually a cheerful, friendly person but she definitely has a passion for the weird, dark and creepy. She is somewhat vain and egotistical. She has her secrets and one of them is her intelligence and ability to collect information; most dismiss her as a dumb party girl (or something like that) and that's part of her cover, she has her fair share of sins and has to have a way of hiding them, and because she is a good liar and good actress, she succeeds.
