there had never been a moment in ajax forrester’s life where he understood optimistic people. blame it on the series of unfortunate events that he faced in his twenty-five years of being alive or just the overall lack of genuinely happy feelings he had, he pretty much always assumed that he would be faced with every worst case scenario known to humanity. from a young age, he always had his asshole tendencies stuck to him like gum on the bottom of a shoe and really only had two emotions: bitter and really bitter. he would even agree that he deserved shitty things to happen to himself, but that never seemed to be the case. no. all of the fucked up shit that he has seen didn’t happen to him directly. it happened to the people that were the last to deserve it, like it was the world making some cruel joke. maybe it was his punishment in the end, to have to live with the guilt of not being able to save the people closest to him. even now, dried blood was scattered along his arms and shirt, but was it his blood? of course not. alyx had been the one to die, not him.
less than twelve hours ago, his little sister had died in his arms. in typical ajax fashion, he didn’t let himself feel the emotions he needed in order to mourn the loss, he just bottled them up in hopes he would never have to deal with them. the numbness began to take over to the point where he could barely even feel the blisters and cuts on his hands anymore from digging the shallow grave. after taking a few minutes to pick some little flowers to lay on top of the dirt, he began walking and kept walking throughout the night. by now, the sky was beginning to lighten back up to start a new day and he had plans on just continuing the walk until his legs gave up, but something was able to pull him out of his trance. the sound of an ocean. his features softened slightly as he stopped and listened to the waves crashing in the distance. alyx had always loved anything to do with water, when they were younger she would swim for hours on end without getting bored. one of her dreams had been to see an actual ocean, but she never got to achieve that dream.
without a second thought, ajax had made his mind up. he would do it for her. with a minor turn in direction, his pace picked up briefly so he could get there faster. eventually his eyes caught onto the sandy beach and he let out a sigh, pausing for a minute before walking out onto it, closer to the water as the sun peeked over the horizon. "we made it, ally." he said under his breath, quickly clearing his throat after to keep himself together.
// so he doesn’t know it, but he is on nd’s territory and joining a group aren’t his intentions, but he’s Gonna
