[align=left][justify][size=9pt]the young brunette had been charged with sorting through the old library. Not the most physically requiring job, which was probably for the best considering his injury. While the library hadn't been used much in the recent months, rudolf had often found himself within its depths, either for the reading or just the peaceful environment. Since the leak, however, a good majority of the books were in poor condition.
He started at the very back, where the books were the worst. Taking them off the shelf one by one, the man awkwardly skimmed through the pages with his good arm, scanning for anything salvageable. After twelve books, it seemed like there was little hope for the library.
Finally he began to have some luck. The closer he got to the front of the room, the more books were intact. He began to sort through the good ones, deciding to catalogue them. But that could take hours, if he did it alone. At least he didn't have anything better to do.

Johannes loved the library. Perhaps assigning Rudolf here was a bit selfish--he knew that of every job he gave, this was the one where he'd end up himself. He headed in, glancing around for his friend, and when he found him, moved up, standing beside him and giving the guy a brief tap on the shoulder. He was smiling.

So hard, in fact, that he hadn't even noticed Johannes's approach until the younger man had tapped his shoulder. Whizzing around, Rudolf was slightly taken by surprise at the odd expression on Jo's face; it had been a while since he had seen his friend smile with such authenticity. Too long, if you asked him. He gave a little wave, hi, after setting down the books in his hand. A smile rested upon his face as well, and he wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead. what's up? the sign was simple and easily read with only one hand, for which Rudy was grateful; at first he'd been afraid that the lodge wouldn't be able to understand him with his right arm out of commission, but there were plenty of simple signs he could still use, and for the most part, the other members were pretty intelligent. And Johannes would always be there for him, that much he knew.

The quick reaction startled Johannes a bit and he stepped back--just to make sure they weren't going to bump heads or anything. His smile faltered a little, hoping he'd caught Rudy at a good time, but his expression was just as open. He had been in a good mood; and getting a chance to work in the library, with his friend, only increased it. He waved back, and hesitated. What was up? He had been cleaning, checking on everyone--he'd grabbed a snack...and now he was here. Not much. He signed, adding a shrug. Can I help? He asked, looking rather hopefully up at Rudolph. He knew the guy had been working hard but--he hoped he hadn't gotten through everything. Looking through the books always gave Johannes a sense of nostalgia, and comfort. He was sad to see any of them ruined, but he'd rather toss some of them himself than ignore the library in it's time of need.

"Separate them, good and bad" he said as he held out the books, looking at the man with a smile. He appreciated his help, but this has been his task, and it worried him that johannes felt the need to help him. Did he think he wasn't capable of pulling his own weight around the lodge?

Johannes took the books, carefully holding them in his arms. He nodded, looking a lot more relaxed than he had in a while. He moved back, looking for a spot to rest them while he sorted, oblivious to his friend's worries. He had trouble putting any of the books in the bad pile, feeling his heart rend as he carefully looked over an extremely water damaged book by Agatha Christie. She was always his favorite. He looked up to Rudolf, biting at his lip before he reluctantly carried the pile of good books to the shelf, leaving the damaged ones in the pile. "I--I can't believe so many of them...are ruined." He signed what he knew--but when he got to 'ruined' he stopped, frowning; he didn't know that sign.

[align=left][justify][size=9pt]it was tedious work, but it was necessary. As the pair worked, Rudolf noticed Johannes's change of mood. Frowning, rudolf simply nodded. It was sad, how so much of their library was in disrepair. He signed the word ruined, slowly and then at normal speed for johannes. It wasn't a word he used frequently, thankfully, but in this situation it was the only one that seemed to fit. its sad. we need more books.
