[align=left][justify][size=9pt]Rudolf was glad that Johannes had given him some notes before his newest meeting for a handful of reasons. First, it allowed him to really get a whole picture of what the meeting was about without having to look from person to person in an attempt to read their lips. Second, it allowed him to translate, if need be, for Win. He knew only some signs, but was a quick learner, and without knowing how permanent the deafness would be it would be best to help him get used to seeing them more and more. Third, it meant that he would actually know there was a meeting, instead of just happening across it as per usual. And fourthly, it meant that, for once, Johannes had a plan. The thought itself brought a smile to Rudolf's face; while the dictator had been struggling with his confidence and leadership ability only a month or so ago, he was quickly making progress.

He stood at the front, like usual, but left a space to his right for the injured Bruce. That way, he'd be able to sign clearly with his left hand if the man needed any clarification. It was a bit unnerving to think that two of the stronger men in the lodge were currently incapacitated; what if they were attacked? Their numbers were growing, but many of the new members were young and inexperienced. But they would be alright, he had to believe it.

So they were going to have a party; well, if he new johannes (which he did) the man would come to him in a short time and ask him for suggestions. It was how they worked, together. So while the man was talking, and signing when he knew the words, Rudolf let his mind wander; a party.... a feast, a bonfire, a dance, stories, a scavenger hunt, maybe a gift exchange, and decorations. He hoped that Jo would be satisfied with the list.

He began to pay attention once more when Jo mentioned Dahlia and J. That part.. had not been in the notes, as far as he could remember. He wondered briefly if the man would promote them; he didn't, not just yet. A small part of Rudolf wondered if he would ever be chosen to hold a more specific position in the lodge. Right now, he felt like the odd job handiman, which wasn't necessarily bad... just not exactly good, either.

the teen had been cooped up in the kitchen lately, but he had enough time today to rush over to the meeting, quickly adjusting his glasses before standing nearby rudolf. luckily most of the leader's news appeared to be good, but the talk of guns and rabid dogs was admittedly unnerving. though he doubted someone would shoot him on sight, it was still nice to know that someone would be holding lessons for those who didn't know how to operate a firearm, aka him. let's see, they were having a party / bonfire? sweet! he was sure to swing around to attend it, at least for an hour or two. and it seemed like dahlia also got a shout out of sorts. good, she deserved it!

[align=center][div style="width: 500px; text-align: justify; font-size: 9.7pt;"]For the most part, these meetings had been solitary for Bruce. He stood off to the side, against a wall and as far away from people as he could. There was always a space for Dick, should he choose to take it, but other than that — well, people had never been his strong suit. Relationships were messy, even the kind that didn't revolve around building an entire life together (though his has been a dream, he supposes; perhaps that's to be expected when your partner knows you inside and out and still chooses to love the mistakes), and he's not really in the mood to deal with anything more. Today, though, he has to make an exception. The ringing in his ear had gone down since the initial injury, and with that came a better ability to hear out of the ear that wasn't occasionally leaking clear liquid. Which was disgusting. He hated injuries that he couldn't see. At least when it was on the outside he got to watch it heal. This one is going to be a mystery, and not one that he appreciates trying to solve.

Today, simply because of the tenuous bond that comes from sharing an unpleasant experience and the results of it, Win stands near Rudolf. He barely nods to the other, but his hands offer a greeting that his mouth doesn't, though it's shaped in the form of thank you instead, signed subtly.

He assumes that there wasn't anything new in the announcements. The room is blessedly quiet as Johannes speaks, and yet even then he's having trouble making sense of the words. Everything blends in with the ambient noise of shuffling feet, the rustling of clothes, the clearing of throats. It's beyond frustrating, his sudden inability to focus on one voice in a crowd, but Win does his best to keep his irritation from showing on his face. Every word seems unbearably close and yet terribly far away, even though his voice is stuttering at his natural volume. Eventually, he simply crosses his arms over his chest and taps against the inside of his elbow. Rudolf is on his bad side, though if there's anyone he trusts standing there besides Dick, it's someone who knows exactly what it's like not to hear the footsteps coming his way. He never did ask how it happened, did he? Has he always had this? Was it gradual? Sudden, like his? Someday, it would be nothing more than another fact of life.

Finally, though, he hears something that he actually likes. Not the final announcement, no, he doesn't really care for those. Whoever gets promoted doesn't mean a damn thing to him now. It's the dogs that catch his attention, and pale blue eyes turn hard and cold at the thought of someone hurting them. "If you find a dog that's causing trouble, come get me or someone else who knows what they're doing before you shoot them. More often than not, they're scared or hungry. If you wouldn't shoot a person for that, don't shoot a dog," he asks, though his tone leans more towards a demand, signing a rough estimation of his speech as he goes for Rudolf's sake. (He's beginning to understand just how difficult lip reading can be.) Despite his attitude, Bruce is painfully empathetic and people tend to learn that about him eventually. Everyone deserves a second chance. Where would he be if he hadn't found his?

MEETING 7/13

"All right, guys--" Johannes was in a good mood. Bruce had been right--this had been needed. The place was much cleaner. It smelled cleaner. It was just lighter in here; and Robin wasn't bad at cooking, though he maybe wasn't the best. Either way; everything that could be keeping him in a good mood was, except for their latest injury. Which brought him to part of the meeting. Great. Once again, he had his notes, so it shouldn't be too tough. He planned to give a copy to Rudolf, in case his signs weren't accurate. This time, he was standing on the staircase in the hall; leaning over the banister. He was beginning to feel a bit bad about standing on a table, now it was clean; but he still wanted to be able to keep an eye on who was in the room. When the lodge had gathered, he gave them a grin. Odd or not; he was visibly happy, and maybe even a bit excited.

"Right--so, you've all worked hard this week. This place looks a lot better. It--because of that, I wanted to--well, we've gotten a lot done, we're safe, relatively speaking. A lot of you guys are new here. So I thought we'd...have a, um--"
Here he'd begun to stumble; though he'd thought a lot about this, but somehow, the proposal was a lot trickier. He felt a bit sheepish, and coughed before continuing. "A party. Sort of. Celebration? There's a lotta cooking going on, a-and it's clean, so--I thought it'd be a good time to...let everyone have a bit of fun." To him, the main purpose was they weren't sticking to a rationed diet for the day; but he'd hoped to try and get a bit more interesting. "So there's--we're gonna have a few things--a bonfire cause a lot of stuff we need to toss out after the leak, can get burned and--it'll be nice!" He hoped. Continuing on: "There's gonna be a bit more to it but--we um, have other announcements, so--you'll all see what I mean!"

He paused--the next bit was a little tricky. "So...we've had a--a couple accidents, lately. With--with guns. And that's not--those aren't things we can afford to have...accidents with. I want to add gun training to the regimen--if you're--if you're under thirteen, no guns, period. Otherwise I want you all to learn from those of us who have experience before you're allowed to use them just--willy nilly." He figured that was probably happening; but he wanted to make it official.

"Next--it looks like some of us have been...trying to, um--tame the feral dogs. Good going. I--I'd rather we--do, well--anything to keep ourselves safe. And in hindsight if we can...make sure they trust us and will get food from us if they behave--that's probably for the best. They can help protect us. I won't pretend to know a lot about dogs, but I know plenty of you do. Just--if they're not safe to be around someone without biting, please just keep them away from the kids." He glanced at Rudolf. The guy, and a few others, still had heir injuries. His own were almost healed.

"Lastly. Dahlia, you've been showing a lot of promise around here. Keep up the good work. J--" He paused, biting his lip. "You...have too. Just try to keep out of trouble, but thank you for being so--eager to learn. And work." He glanced around--actually, quite a few, in fact, most of the lodge had been extremely helpful. He wanted to thank more of them--but that was what the celebration was for.

OOC SUM UP:
[celebration is coming, link HERE] (wip)
[no promotions yet but next week there should be some]
[dogs are to be tamed not hunted]
[all members not TRAINED with guns should not have them or use them unless while with someone with experience (Bruce, Snowden, etc)]

At Win's request--though Johannes could tell it wasn't much of a 'request', honestly--he nodded, adding on. "He's right--ah--we don't want any more of this. Wanton shooting." He knew this was a bit of a flipflop from his last meeting, but he'd....thanks to Bruce, and Ace--felt perhaps just a bit more appreciative of the dogs; not to mention the waste of bullets it would be if they just tried to shoot them all. Win was right from a practical standpoint, morality aside; and that had sold the dictator. He just wanted them to know that he stood with Win on this; though he doubted anyone would actively disobey him.
