As much as he wanted to hold it against the other man for up and disappearing on him, he knew that he couldn't. After all, gabriel had been the one who had disappeared, all because of an explosion that should have killed him. But somehow he'd been patched up--not without unbearable pain that left even a tough, durable man such as himself whimpering and tremendous scarring--and had found his way here, following no trail but his own, which he carved out through aimless traveling around the world. It had been more difficult than it should have been, seeing as there was no power, meaning it was difficult to move between continents, but luckily there were still people running boats once the war was over.

He could remember the day the power had gone very clearly, as if it was just yesterday that he had been playing poker with jack and the lights had cut, leaving them in the dark. For a while they had thought the other side had won, but quickly found that that was not the case, and realized that the power had gobe out all over. The scarred man had thought that the power would likely be back on at some point soon afterwards, but it never came back on, and the war continued to rage. They had won in the end, but not after that blast that left him unconscious and unable to move for god knows how long.

He had always hoped to see his old friend again, but since  the conclusion of the war, he figured they all thought he was dead. And with what he'd done--becoming a mercenary and all--he wasn't sure if jack would even want to see him any more. Would the soldier even recognize him now? He sure hoped so, but he'd learned not to trust in hope. He'd entered the rugged territory a few weeks ago, and come across the ski lodge only days earlier, but hadn't quite worked up the courage to approach it yet. But today he had finally run out of food, and he knew he had two choices: go in or go hungry.

There was a door right there. He was almost certain at least one of the residents had spotted him roaming the hills nearby the other day--he swore he'd caught sight of a flash of movement in a window--so he was sure he'd be welcomed in, seeing as he hadn't been apprehended yet. Sucking in a deep breath, he made his way to the door and lifted a hand, curling it into a fist. It hovered over the door for a few moments, hesitating, then came down three times. Knock, knock, knock. He waited for a response patiently, eyes trained on the wood in front of his face.
