Jack glanced down at their hands. He gave it a soft squeeze. After a bit, they left the base and started walking up a path. Jesse looked around. “...Where are we going?” He askes.

He blinked. “You should Gabe.” He murmjred. After a while, Jack stopped. They had arrived at a flat piece of land. In front of them lay a number of headstones for graves. Jesse froze, looking them over.

“What is this place?” Jesse asked.

“This is the graveyard that holds our dead comrades.” He said. Jack looked them over. “These men and women are the reason we still fight. We fight so they’re sacrifices weren’t for nothing. We fight to make the world a better place. To make the future the world these people wanted but can’t have now. Most days are unbearable. Most days, we do feel like giving up. But if we do that: if we stop fighting and we forget these people who fought beside us, then all This work will have been for nothing.” Jack said.

Jesse looked the graves over. Jack glanced at Jesse. “The same goes for you sister, your girlfriend and unborn child. You loved them. You wanted to give them a better future. They may not be here physically to witness it. But they’re here with you spiritually, Jesse. Just as all these other soldiers are. They’ve never truly left us.” Jack said. “Keep fighting for their sakes, kid. Because I’m sure they would have wanted a better future for you too.” He nurmured.

Jesse glanced down for a momemt before looking at the graves. He was silent for a while before nodding. Jack was right. Jesse nodded. “Yes sir.” He said.
