They had finally done it. After ten long years, Noctis and his friends had reclaimed Insomnia. Noctis had defeated Ardyn once and for all. The only task which remained was ridding the world of darkness and bringing the light back.
Noctis and his trio of friends had stopped at the staircase leading into the citadel. Noctis glanced up at the building which towered over them. This was it. The end. The king walked up a few steps before turning to face the three.
â€ÂÂSo this is farewell.†Ignis’s voice cut in, breaking the silence. Noct have a faint nod.
â€ÂÂYeah, here we are.†He said, looking his friends over. Gladio shifted.
â€ÂÂit’s all you.†Gladio said in his usual tough voice. He appeared calm. Although, Noctis knew. He knew they were hurting. However, he turned his back to them and began up the stairs. He could hear Prompto take in a shaky breath.
â€ÂÂNo turning back now.†Prompto said, trying to compose himself. Noctis stopped at his words. No turning back...This was the last time he would see them. Noct stood there for a beat before turning back to the trio. His gaze landed on the smallest.
â€ÂÂPrompto.“ Noct began, looking at his friend. Prompto. His best friend. One he’s grown to love. The ever loyal companion. Noctis’s eyes traveled to Gladio.
â€ÂÂGladio.†Noct said, meeting his gaze. Gladio. He and Gladio always had fights with each other. But there was never any doubt Gladio would risk his life for Noct. He has become more than a shield to Noctis. He had become his brother. Last but not least, Noctis looked over at the taller male.
â€ÂÂIgnis.†Noct said, looking Ignis over. Ignis has been a part of his life since he was three. He had grown up alongside Noctis. He practically raised Noct growing up. Ignis has sacrificed his eyesight just to keep Noct safe. He was much more than a friend. He had grown into a paternal figure. And there was no denying Ignis’s love and affection for Noct.
Noct eyed them over. His dear friends. His family. Noct could feel his chest tighten. This was goodbye. â€ÂÂI leave it to you.†Noctis said. He blinked back a few tears. â€ÂÂWalk tall, my friends.†Noctis said, his voice soft. Ignis, Gladio and Prompto looked up at Noctis. They then bowed to him.
â€ÂÂTake care, your majesty.†Ignis murmured calmly. His voice was as soothing as always. Noct nodded. He then turned, making his way into the building. After a few minutes, the king made it to the throne room.
The throne room. A place so familiar, yet so foreign now. This place was once called home by the king. A place he still calls home. But, this is the last he would see of it. Noctis stood at the entrance of the room, taking in the surroundings. He then slowly made his way up the staircase to the small platform which hosted the throne.
Once there, he stopped alongside the chair, resting a hand upon the cool stone. A shuddering breath released from the king’s lips. Disbelief. Shock. Grief. Longing. All those emotions took hold of his heart at once. Noct eyes the throne. â€ÂÂI’m home.†the male said. He then looked around the barren room. It was time.
â€ÂÂI walked tall. And though it took me a while...I’m ready.†he said, his voice betraying a faint tremor. He then made his way to the throne, sitting down on it. Noctis glanced down. The Ring Of Lucii, which he had on his finger was starting to glow. Noct looked up.
â€ÂÂKings Of Lucis...Come to me!†Noctis said, summoning his sword and sticking it into the floor in front of him. He gripped the handle, watching as a few astral spirits appeared in the room. Noctis glanced them over. These were the last kings. He watched as they drew their swords and suddenly flew at Noctis.
He groaned and hissed in pain as they appeared to fly into Noct’s body. The pain was agonizing. But it was worth it. To bring the light back into the world. To save his fiends. Noctis bowed his head, keeping a tight grip on the sword.
After a minute, a familiar figure had appeared. Noct’s father. â€ÂÂDad...Trust in me.†Noctis said, his voice shaking. The ghost of his father gave him a sad look. His father then summoned a sword, looking at Noctis before plunging the sword into Noct’s chest. Noctis tensed up before his vision faded to black and his body went limp.
~~
Noctis’s eyes suddenly snapped open. He quickly shot up, cold sweat running down his body. His eyes were wide and he had paled as a sickening feeling made its home in the pit of his stomach. His breathing was shallow and shaking. His heart was hammering against his chest.
Noct looked around, seeing that he was in a tent. Three more sleeping bags were in here, but no one was occupying them. What...Was that? A nightmare? A vision? Noct managed to get to his feet. He moved over, unzipping the tent with a shaky hand and stepped out.
He was greeted with a pleasant sight. A campfire which had been recently put out. The sun was now currently coming up over the horizon, causing the sky to look a beautiful shade of pink and orange. Four chairs were set out around the campfire. A grill and small folding table was placed out as well.
Noct soon spotted three others. He took a step back. Ignis, Gladio and Prompto were all here. They were all alive and alright. He wasn’t dead.
Gladio soon looked over. â€ÂÂMorning sleeping beauty.†Gladio said teasingly. His smile had faded however when he noticed how terrified and pale Noctis looked. â€ÂÂNoct? Everything alright?†Gladio asked. Noctis tried to speak, but nothing but a wispy breath came out.
