“The heartfire.” The dragon murmured.

“Heartfire? What’s that?” Atreus asked. The dragon lifted its head a bit. After a momemt, a fiery glow seemed to emit from the inside of his chest. It seemed to glow brighter and dim in sync with his heartbeat.

“The heartfire is what allows our kind to use our firebreath. It is also our life sustaining force. The heartfire is very powerful. With a certain kind of magic, they can take the heartfire from dragons. With it, they can become powerful. They went after us. They took the dragons heartfire. And once it’s gone, the dragons can no longer breathe fire. And they grow weaker and end up dying after a period of time once it’s gone from their body.” He said

his eyes widened. “if heard of those. odin apparently has one as a trophy..”

The dragon let out a soft rumble as the light faded from his chest again. He then looked over at him. "Many gods came after our kind. They're already strong so it was mostly just sport for them. The heartfire is usually kept inside of a small crystal, usually worn as a piece of jewelry." He growled. "Not much can be done now. The others have already passed." He said.

"...I'm sorry to hear that." Atreus whispered. "...We'll keep you safe." he said.

"My life is not your concern. You should focus on yourself." The dragon said.

It had been about a week later. It was later on that night, and Kratos couldn't sleep. He ended up going outside of the cabin. He glanced around. The dragon ended up staying with them. He was currently asleep next to the cabin, his tail curled around him. Kratos watched the dragon before looking away. Kratos then moved away a bit.
