even after the revolution.. gavin still didn’t like androids. didn’t quite hate them anymore, but he didn’t like them. they made him.. scared. he didn’t quite understand why, but all he knew is that they could turn on him in seconds- so, when he was called into fowler’s office, and told an android was his new partner.. he sort of stared at fowler for a moment before looking at rk900. he was nearly the spitting image of connor. “are you fucking serious? this is just connor 2.0” he snarled.

Nines looked evenly at Gavin and wrinkled his nose a bit, saying in a deep and calm voice, "I assure you, Detective Reed, I am a far more upgraded version of RK800. More than just a 2.0." Fowler seemed like he was trying his best not to chuckle at Gavin's misfortune as he said quietly, "Yes, I'm 'fucking serious'. Listen, Gavin, you haven't been having the best track record solving cases lately, and Nines can help with that. Hell, he might even get you a promotion."

he scoffed and shook his head. “he better not try shit.” he hissed at fowler and moved out, running a hand through his hair.

When Gavin moved out of the office, Nines blinked and moved out after him, following him to his desk. He couldn't help but notice the stares directed in his direction as he walked, mainly just because they were surprised to see a Connor lookalike.

he sat down and narrowed his eyes at nines. “what do i call you?”

Tilting his head, Nines said softly, "My official name is Nines, but you can call me something else if you want. I'm aware that humans are fond of nicknames."

he frowned. “nines it is.” he muttered and moved to boot up his computer to open up a file.

Watching Gavin curiously, Nines tilted his head and watched him for a long moment before glancing at his screen, saying softly, "Fowler informed me that you're working on a homicide case right now."

he blinked. “connor got to it before i could so i’m finding another case.” he muttered.

Well, the android revolution had been a success, and things were definitely... Weird. It was an odd adjustment period, but now things seemed to be calming down, and Cyberlife had realized that they had a prototype that would never actually be used. RK900 had been designed in case Connor failed his mission, and although Connor had technically failed his mission, things had all worked out for the best, so Connor was allowed to stay activates, and Cyberlife had decided that they might as well send RK900 out, since there was no purpose in keeping him at Cyberlife.

There were several differences between Nines and Connor, mainly because Nines was an upgraded version. Nines had cold grey-blue eyes compared to Connor's more warm ones, and Nines was definitely taller. It was actually sort of surprising how intimidating Nines was compared to Connor. His demeanor was cold and calm and calculating, and although he did have the 'deviancy' that was now commonplace for androids, he didn't really seem to focus on his emotions too much. At the moment, the tall and intimidating android was standing Captain Fowler's office, his arms tucked behind his back as the Captain shouted out into the main office, "Reed! Get in here!" Once the detective came in, Fowler sighed and said, gesturing to RK900, "I'd like to introduce you to your new partner, RK900, otherwise known as Nines. He'll be helping you out on investigations from now on."

( so this is obviously an au where Connor stays activated and the revolution works out but Cyberlife already designed RK900 so they're just kinda like "fuck it let's send him out" )
