the losing card i’ll someday lay && Private, Sahl

Soap frowned as the young, childish and bubbly soldier’s gaze. Wow. He just had to say too much, let Roach know the truth, didn’t he? The captain watched his soldier’s actions, shifting somewhat uncomfortably. How Roach our a hand over his face, shaking his head. And how he began to look like he wanted to cry. Upon his staggering of words, the Scotsman got up, and did what the stoic captain usually didn’t: he attempted to hug the American.

Gary jolted when Soap hugged him. For a moment, he froze. The captain wasn't the type to hug, but here he was. Before questioning it and ruining the moment, Gary slowly wrapped his arms around Soap best he could. He let go soon after, though, leaning away and reaching up with a shaking hand to wipe his tears away. "Th-thanks."

Good, Roach didn’t give an exclamation as to what exactly was happening here, but he did accept it. He felt the soldier attempt to hug back, and released his own grip for a short amount of time, blue gaze watching him appear to snivel, wiping the tears away. ”Of course. Are you better now?”

Let’s just say.... it took a long, long time for the two of them to recover. But here they were, back in action. It was in the depths of the Russian Tundra, and the captain shook out his camo as he pressed forward, a sniper rifle in his hand. He then looked around for Roach— where was he? ”Roach?” his worried face came over the radio.

Recovering from burns were the absolute worst and Roach couldn't compare the experience to anything else. Being in the freezing cold now, he still couldn't wish for a free to sit by. He wasn't sure he could look at a fire for a while after what happened. Hearing a familiar accent through the radio, he blinked and realized he must've fallen behind in his thoughts. "I'm here." His call back was quiet and his return to Soap's side was as quick as he could manage, scoped rifle raised as he followed along carefully.

He didn’t blame Roach, but he wanted something warm to sit by, in all truth. For the sergeant’s sake, he didn’t attempt to make a fire. Relief flooded him at the call— he didn’t want to lose his apprentice again. A small smile twitched at him, and he nodded, “Okay. So someone’s taken up Makarov’s handiwork. I got intel saying he’s in a hotel ‘round here. We have to find it.” The Scotsman whispered.

Roach grimaced at the mention of the dead Russian, but he forged on. "Any clue what we're working with, captain? He got soldiers of his own?"

Soap frowned as he had to think, shifting awkwardly. But he nodded, “Yeah. He’s got about five... but they’re trained real well.”

Roach glanced at the captain as he waited for an answer, which came soon enough. "Only five?" He glanced back out from their position. "Sir, trained well or not... he's a fool!" He still spoke in a whisper, but it became a whisper-shout toward the end of his sentence. Which, he was partially right. As out of practice as the two were, they were still trained incredibly well and had proven it several times. As humble as he tried to be, even he couldn't ignore that.

Soap have an annoyed look at his junior, crystallinefog escaping his mouth as he sighed. That’s when he heard the whisper shout and attempted to place a hand on Roach’s mouth. “Do you wanna give us away? Plus, we’re well-trained too and we took down an entire base once.” he pointed out.
